19 Cat Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

Resolutions are made to be broken but cat resolutions? Those are a thing? If you have a cat, they should be. Is your cat ruling the roost? Is she ruining everything you own? Is she meowing for more attention from you on the daily? 2019 is the year you set some cat-related resolutions and stick to them. The world (but mostly your furniture) depends on it. Resolution 1: I will always keep at least three (3) lint rollers in my house, and one (1) in my car. Resolution 2: I will stop buying articles of clothing that are black. Resolution 3: I will scoop the litter once a day, every day. Even on days when my coworkers and I go out for drinks after work. And then drinks after drinks. Resolution 4: I will make (and keep!) a well-check appointment with my cat’s vet this year because cats who see the vet regularly live longer lives. Resolution 5: I will stop turning down second dates with people just because my cat doesn’t like them. Resolution 6: I will not let my cat take her collar and ID tags off even when she meows and does that pitiful thing with her eyes where it’s like okay, whatever you want! Resolution 7: I will finally get my cat microchipped because indoor cats are more likely to get lost, not less. Resolution 8: I will consistently play with my cat for at least 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes at night, and any other time she demands. Resolution 9: …but I will stop letting her play with string. Resolution 10: I will upgrade my cat’s life by getting her that scratching post, that cat tree, or whatever newfangled device she’d like best. Or at least a few cardboard boxes. Resolution 11: I will stop assuming I can move when my cat falls asleep on my lap. Resolution 12: I will evaluate my cat’s diet to make sure it’s not time for her to switch to a new food. Resolution 13: I will not let my cat get fat. Okay, I will actively help her be less fat. Resolution 14: I will brush my cat’s teeth. Every. Single. Day. Resolution 15: I will call my vet when my cat’s acting weird, even when I think it’s (probably) not a big deal.

Resolution 16: I will keep my cat’s heartworm, flea, and tick medication up-to-date. Resolution 17: I will make sure my emergency plan is current and specifically considers my cat. Resolution: 18: I will stop coming home smelling like dogs. (Gross.) Resolution 19: I will finally determine once and for all whether I need 11 more cats.

How are you going to become a better cat parent this year? Us, we’re planning on breathing less loudly and trying to stop sleeping past, like, 4 a.m. We’ll let you know how it goes.
