4 Reasons Your Vet Should be Coming to You

We get it. You love your pet. You want her to receive the best medical attention available and you want her vet to be knowledgeable, experienced, and kind. That doesn’t change the fact that schlepping your pet to the vet’s office is…well, it’s kind of a hassle. Millions of people are making the switch to in-home veterinary care. House-calls aren’t a throwback to the 1930s and they’re not just for large animals or highly-rural areas.

1. You’re busy.

Arguably the biggest benefit of switching to a mobile veterinary service is convenience. Your life is busy. Who has time to wait forever in a vet’s office, then traipse back in the next week for a follow up? There are some situations when only a brick-and-mortar vet’s office will do, like when your pet needs an x-ray. Other scheduled visits like a well-check, immunization, or behavioral checkup are easier (and faster) when you can do them from home. And follow up appointments? Tech-forward mobile vets offer video and/or phone follow ups with the exact same vet to ensure all your questions are answered. It’s about time, right?

2. Your pet hates the vet.

No really…she does. Trips to the vet make most pets anxious, even the most stoic, because they learn to expect the worst. Not only do they have to be poked and prodded by the doctor, they have to endure an anxious car ride, a fear-inducing waiting room, and all kinds of unfamiliar noises and smells. Imagine how unsettling it feels to walk into a hospital. That’s how most pets feel when they get to the vet.

3. Comfort makes for better care.

In-home vet visits are more comfortable for everyone. When your pet is calm she can be more thoroughly examined; it may be helpful for the vet to see her in her “natural” habitat, too. Your pet can sense when you’re less stressed, too. And you can rest assured that when you receive in-home veterinary care, your doctor’s attention is focused solely on your pet, not the dog in the other room. It’s no wonder so many people are switching to private vet visits.

4. Stay on track with visits.

Some studies reveal that nearly half of all pet owners regularly go a year (or more) without taking their animal to the vet. Skipping wellness checks is never a good idea, and at-home vet care makes it simpler and more convenient to check that to-do off your list. They’re also ideal for periods in your pet’s life when she’ll need a lot of vet care, like during that critical first year of life or after an accident. Having an on-call vet makes living up to your responsibility as a pet owner easier. Have you tried an in-home vet visit yet?
