There may not be a cat park in the Bay Area (yet), but thankfully there are plenty of great options for socializing outdoors with your cat, or being around folks who loves cats as much as you do. Here are five of our favorites:

First Caturday at Dolores Park

What better way to spend the 1st Saturday of every month then with your feline friend, catnapping at one of the Bay Area’s most beautiful green spaces? Past events will see hundreds of cats on leashes, making new friends and enjoying the sun (or rolling fog) together. Not sure if your cat is a candidate for being on a leash? First Caturday’s Facebook page offers a ton of useful information to see if the event is right for your furry friend.

Cat People: The Comedy Show for Cat Lovers by Cat Lovers

It’s simple: if you love cats, comedy or pizza, then this is the event for you, going down every third Saturday of the month at Oakland comedy house The Layover. There’s a cat-prize giveaway, a meow-contest (for the most realistic cat impersonator), a Cat Haiku Battle, and $7 Meowgaritas and Moscows Mews if you want to grab a drink. Grab tickets on Cat People’s Eventbrite months in advance, or the night before. Bonus: if you give $20 or more a month to the SPCA, Fix Our Ferals, or Cat Town, bring proof of your donation and the show is totally 100% free. Meow-verlous.

Nine Lives Foundation

If you’re looking to get involved in the cat community, supporting Nine Lives Foundation in Redwood City is a great place to start. They do amazing work finding young kitties new homes, host weekend adoptions and vaccination clinics, and throw awesome community events. Past events include everything from meet-and-greets to pizza parties to a benefit concert with Smashmouth. *Hey now, you’re an all-star* Tune into their Facebook page for what’s ahead, or check out their Meetup, where they are currently fielding small donations to help fund a brand new adoption center.

Hang with Cats at Cafes Around Town

For the tea indulging cat lover, there are few places as wondrous as KitTea Cafe in San Francisco. They have cereal mornings, movie nights every week during the summer, and are open all year round whenever you’re out of the house and need a kitten fix. On the other side of the Bay Bridge, Oakland’s Cat Town offers much of the same, trading tea for coffee at their RAWR coffee bar (complete with tasty treats from Berkeley’s Highwire Coffee and cat treats and swag). They have regular yoga, too, in addition to Drawing Night with Cats, and Meditation for Pet Loss to help you through tough times. Either cafe would add some interpersonal catnip to your social life but remember, they’re not BYOC (Bring Your Own Cat.)

Silicon Valley Cat Lovers Meetup

Next time you’re in the South Bay, make sure to check out San Jose’s Cat Lovers Meetup page for the latest events from these folks. Whatever you fancy, they have you covered, from kittie yoga, book reading with cats and much, much more. They use The Dancing Cat in San Jose as an unofficial headquarters, and make multiple events happen every month.
