8 Things to do With Your Dog in San Francisco this Spring

San Francisco in spring is fantastic. The winter rains have worn off and it’s finally time to get outside in the (sometimes) sunshine before summer fog rolls in. If you and your dog have been cooped up for months, it’s time to get out. Here are the 8 best things to do with your dog in San Francisco this spring.
1. Go to DogFest
DogFest is one of SF’s best dog events, hands-down. The 2019 will take place on April 27th at Duboce Park and will feature entertainment, food trucks, games, prizes, and of course, dogs! It’s a community-based event that benefits McKinley Elementary School, so it’s super kid-friendly too.
2. Do Some Doga
Yes, there’s yoga for dogs in San Francisco. YogaForce was one of the first studios in town to offer dog-friendly yoga, but you can also do yoga with your dog at Pup Plaza in San Jose on Sunday mornings throughout the spring.
3. Hang Out With Corgis
Man, does San Francisco ever love corgis. There are a handful of corgi-centric events in SF each year, and two of the best happen in springtime. Spark Social SF hosts a monthly corgi meetup, and Corgi Con itself will be back at Ocean Beach (with over 1,100 corgis) on June 15th. All dog breeds are welcome, especially #honorarycorgis!
4. Go On an Egg Hunt
Did you know that Wag Hotels hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs!? (They do, and it’s awesome.) The event, held at Wag Hotel on 12th Street on April 6, 2019, is all about the 1,000 hidden eggs your dog is eligible to find. Best of all, the whole thing benefits the Humane Society of Silicon Valley.
5. Spend the Day on the Bay
There are lots of spots along the bay that make for a great day out with your dog if the weather’s nice. One of the best spring events for dog owners is Opening Day on the Bay, the official opening of Northern California’s boating season. Grab a spot along the water to watch hundreds of boats “parade” by around lunchtime on April 28th.
6. Eat or Drink With Your Dog
There are more than two dozen dog-friendly bars in San Francisco alone. If it’s a rainy spring day, try hitting up the WWII-inspired cocktail bar, Churchill, located in the Lower Haight, or watching one of the 26 screens at the Bus Stop Saloon in Cow Hollow? On a nicer day, enjoy the patio with your dog at El Rio (Mission), Park Chalet (Golden Gate Park), or Zazie (Cole Valley)?
7. Hit Up Sunday Streets
Sunday Streets is one of the coolest, most progressive events in San Francisco. On various weekends from March to October, 1-4 miles of streets in neighborhoods throughout the city are shut down to car traffic from late-morning to mid-afternoon. There’s a festival atmosphere and dogs, babies, bikes, and rollerblades are always allowed!
8. See the Rhododendrons
You’ve never seen a rhododendron? Of course you have! These beautiful, pastel-colored spring blooms come alive around April every year, and Golden Gate Park is home to the best display in the city. Rhododendron Dell, located in the center of the park, is home to about 850 species of the flowering plants – and you already know that there are plenty of other things in the city’s biggest park you and your dog can explore!
