What’s better than loading up on beautiful southern California produce at a local farmer’s market? Being allowed to bring your pet with you. Check out this shortlist of our favorite Los Angeles pet-friendly farmer’s markets, and even a couple worth traveling for.

The Original Farmer’s Market

Dogs are welcome in The Grove shopping area and most shops actually allow pets! Just outside The Grove is The Dog Bakery, a delightful shop filled with treats, cakes, and cookies for your pooch. You’ll also stumble onto The Original Farmer’s Market, one of the largest and most popular in Los Angeles. Although pets aren’t technically allowed into the farmer’s market itself, a lot of pet parents enter at their own risk. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Marvista Farmers Market

Let’s not beat around the bush: pets are not allowed inside the Marvista Farmers Maket. That said, the market does offer a complimentary dog sitting service you can use while doing some fresh produce shopping! The market is open every Sunday from 9am-2pm, rain or shine, with free craft workshops for kids each week, too. Just make sure your pet has a collar and ID before you drop her off!

Pacific Palisades Farmers Market

Pacific Palisades Farmers Market isn’t the right place to go with your dog, but it’s a great place to go if you want to get a dog! Outside pets aren’t allowed inside the market but if you’re thinking of adopting, the market holds adoption events every Sunday during market hours from 8am-1pm.

Orange County Great Park Farmer’s Market

As if you needed another good reason to drive down to sunny Orange County some weekend. Next time you’re in the OC, check out this dog-friendly farmers market. Weather permitting, every Sunday from 10am-2pm, you’ll find booths chock full of locally grown produce alongside  a variety of food trucks. On the first Sunday of each month there are live poetry readings and the local college students teach badminton, if your dog is into…poetry and badminton? Check out the market’s online calendar for upcoming themes and cooking demonstration dates.

Fullerton Certified Market

This Orange County mainstay welcomes dogs every week on Thursday nights. Besides weekly dog-friendly days, they also host an annual event called Dog Days of Summer. With dozens of pet-friendly booths, competitions, and even a dog show, it’s a great way to spend the day with your pooch!

Little Italy Mercato Farmer’s Market

San Diego has a lot of cool things going on but for dog lovers? It’s sublime. After you hit up one of SoCal’s dog-friendliest beaches, check out Little Italy Mercato. It’s known as one of the absolute best markets in the city and pets are totally welcome! The fun is happening every Saturday from 8am to 2pm, rain or shine.

Thinking of bringing your pet to a farmer’s market? Here’s what you need to consider.

• Farmer’s markets are popular, but that popularity equals a lot of people. Crowded places can be really stressful for animals. Be sure to give your pet time to acclimate and watch carefully to ensure she’s not feeling overwhelmed.
• It’s really important your pet be completely up to date on her vaccinations anytime you bring her to a crowded public place, especially one where she might encounter other animals.
• Outdoor farmer’s markets can get pretty hot and stuffy, so it’s smart to bring along a collapsible water bowl in case the heat becomes an issue.
• Is your pet like to grab something off a display and eat it? Maybe leave her at home, then! Farmer’s markets are rife with foods that are toxic to dogs and shop owners won’t love your pet snacking on their wares, anyway.
• Check the specific rules and regulations for the farmer’s market you’re heading to; most require dogs or cats to be on leashes no more than 6-feet long and not extendable.
• Don’t forget to reward your pet once you leave the market with some playtime or treats for behaving well!
